Although many think that it is of French Alsatian origin, others are of the opinion that it descends from the Aminea variety , cultivated in Greece. It was first recorded, as “Traminer” in the year 1000, in the province of Italy, Tremeno. The literal translation of the German name is “spicy grape” Variety White / Rosé, likes fertile soils, not too hot a climate & is sensitive to Spring frosts. Large leaves & small well clustered bunches. Small oval berries with thick pink coloured skin. It has a very special aroma of flowers, principally rose petals. Difficult to cultivate always, as has a propensity to diseases, viruses & is low yielding, it gives wines with distinctive aromatic character: floral notes (roses & lychee) harmonious spices of texture almost oily. With a good degree of alcohol & soft acidity, succulent & persistent in the mouth.
