- Tempranillo
The tempranillo is a high quality red grape found in various places
in Spain. It may appear under twenty or so different names such as Cencibel,
Ull de Lebre, tinto fino etc. Despite its excellent wine-making qualities
it is found in little more than 2% of the Spanish vine. This grape is
normally found in the north of The Iberian peninsula and its presence
in the Somontano region is greater than that of the national average,
representing up to 40% of the harvest at Bodegas Pirineos. The presence
of this grape guarantees quality in a number of our wines. It is a medium-sized
spherical grape of a bluish black colour with a good proportion of skin
and pulp which lends to the elaboration process an intense ruby red
colour and fruity aromas (raspberry, redcurrant, plum raisins). In addition
to good acidity it is low in oxidation and for this very reason it can
be considered without a doubt, the king of grapes as far as Crianza
wines are concerned. It also allows good young reds and rosés
to be obtained (using the bleeding technique for musts.
